Kelly @ Glamour This has done a wonderful job digging into my story today…phew…! It’s always a little nostalgic to relive the past. Take a look and read more about how onelove photography became her pretty little self!
{matt + carrie} we have a winner!
It’s official! Matt + Carrie are the winners of the Engagement Session Giveaway! There were many many couples that entered, and the lucky hat picked them! See their photos and read their story:
Matt + Carrie’s wedding story:
We are getting married in my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He’s from Georgia, I’m from Oklahoma, but we live in Durham, North Carolina. We’re having our wedding at The Barn in Tulsa–I love it because it’s this awesome old historic barn full of character, there are swans in the lake that’s on the property, and most of all, because 100% of the money I’m paying them goes to a local charity in Oklahoma. It’s called Brush Creek Youth Ranch, and it’s for troubled teenage boys to get back on track, so-to-speak. I LOVE it that our celebration of marriage is going to help improve the lives of others–what an honor to get married under such circumstances!
We’re having a “beer” and “eco-friendly” themed wedding. We’re trying to be sustainable in pretty much everything possible–right down to the 100% recycled soda bottle ribbon that is holding together our mismatched silverware (procured from thrift stores all over, and we’re donating it once we’re done!). Our only big non-sustainable factor is travel, but if we didn’t have it in Tulsa my mother couldn’t attend, and that’s worth the eco-sacrifice in my book.
The Proposal Story
We were on a roadtrip across the northeast. We both enjoy traveling, good food and trying different beers. And Matt loves movies and Carrie is a wedding and fine art photographer–and for this story, these are important details to know! On October 12th we traveled from Matt’s grandmother’s house in Philadelphia to Mystic, Connecticut (yes, where Mystic Pizza was filmed) seeing the sights along the way (America’s Largest Clock, the Holland Tunnel, the Statue of Liberty, the World’s Largest Tooth, etc).
We got to Mystic in the evening and went to a local oyster bar for dinner, per the hotel’s recommendation. The server recommended two pubs in the area, so after dinner was over we crossed the Mystic River bridge to visit pub #1 and enjoyed a local brew.
On the way to pub #2, we had to walk across the bridge a second time, and Matt said “let’s take a picture on the bridge–we’ll use the timer on your camera.” Carrie set it to go, and while we waited on the timer, Carrie kept telling Matt to put his arm down–she thought he was giving her bunny ears or something ridiculous! It took three tries to get the light right–the pictures kept turning out too dark on the little point and shoot.
After the third picture Carrie went to check how the image turned out, and saw something white in Matt’s hand. Carrie turned around to show Matt the image and ask what he was holding, and when she did, Matt was on one knee and said “Carrie, will you marry me?” Of course she said YES!
Matt wanted to make sure to integrate Carrie’s photography into his proposal–it’s something she really loves and spends a lot of time on–and he was thrilled to see the perfect spot on their way to pub #1. Carrie is thrilled that he proposed in Mystic–she was looking forward to that stop on their roadtrip the most of all, and had chosen it because of the movie-landmark in the middle of town.
And, Carrie is overjoyed that Matt went back to purchase the ring that they had seen at the estate/antique jeweler when they went looking together–such an eco-friendly purchase and it’s extra sparkly to boot!
Congratulations to Matt + Carrie, and keep an eye out for their Engagement Session soon!
{khara + tony} remix
Khara and Tony have been featured on a ton of amazing blogs this past year. If we were back in high school again, they would definitely win the “Most Adorable and Romantic” award… I don’t think we had that one… I may just have to make that one up. Haha. Well, here’s to two stars of onelove photography! Cheers to many years of happy marriage!
In honor of their awesome-ness, I felt super creative this week and decided to style their images ultra-vintage….! See their original post here.
{inspiration} elizabeth messina
I had to catch my breath when I saw this. Elizabeth Messina’s paintings over her photography absolutely stun and inspire me… It feels dreamlike and ethereal.
{grace ann} 6 months!
I had the chance to fly home to the Bay Area this week and had the time of my life, holding my sweet litttle baby niece! Grace Ann is now 6 months old, and melting my heart with every little smirk and smile she makes! Curious, playful and bashful… a gentle, sweet little spirit. Look at her beautiful eyes!

{mark + dani} pacific palisades, ca
Mark and Dani are the best! They took me to an oasis in the middle of LA – Will Rogers State Historic Park – truly an oasis! Polo fields, horse stables, and not to mention, Will Rogers’ original home… with rocking chairs on the porch. Trust me, I tried them out myself. All the best to these two lovebirds as they get married in New York next fall!
See them featured on The Wedding Chicks!
- What a great session guys!
{stan + staci} …and a happy new year!
As the year comes to a close, I am reflecting on what is most important.
Our love.
The love of those around us, those not around us, during an emotional time of year…the holidays. It provokes great joy and excitement, also painful memories and relationships colliding for family gatherings. One thing we cannot escape is our great desire for, enjoyment of, sadness without (or fear of) … love.
We have all attend who-knows-how-many weddings over the years where the following words are quoted. More traditionally, they are quoted out of a flowery version of the Bible. Who actually listens to these words?? Aren’t we thinking, “When is this ceremony going to end so I can get a drink??!” or “Wow, look at those bridesmaid dresses…..” Yet, these words are worth re-visiting. There’s a reason why we want to quote them at our weddings. But do we let the meaning really sink in…and change us?
I have found them paraphrased by Eugene Peterson, who so poetically re-frames them into a fresh perspective. I thought some may enjoy it.
No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
First Corinthians 13:3-7
So, take heart! No matter the amount of money in our pockets…or not…(Who would like to have Tiger Wood’s checkbook with the conditions he’s in?) We are bankrupt without love. Give it and receive it…let it be known to those around you that you feel it.
Staci and Staci send us off into 2010 with their Happy New Year shoot in SF! Enjoy!
{Run, Laugh and Be Jazzy!} 2 years old
Little “Jazzy” Jasmine has redefined what it means to enjoy life. The well-known saying to “Eat, drink and be merry” would be better put as “Run, Laugh and Be Jazzy!”
- LOVE how you added the drawing details to these photos, reminds me of the new Taylor Swift cards we're working on at American Greetings. Great stuff!!
{so “inspired” today!}
It’s Christmas a little early this year!
Inspired By This has been so gracious to feature Mark + Andrea on their blog! Leila and Brittany do some beautiful beautiful work over there. Check it out!
